Harmonious Development: An Inner Work Tradition by G. I. Gurdjieff

Harmonious Development is based in New Paltz at the Discovery Institute on Plains Road and has existed in various forms since 1985. It is a fully nonprofit organization, sustained by voluntary participation rather than paid roles, operating within a genuine economy of generosity.

Ahead of Harmonious Development’s group series beginning in mid-September, Spiral Mirror is pleased to present this introduction to a tradition of inner work created by G. I. Gurdjieff.

Gurdjieff introduced a practical, modern path of inner work designed for the conditions of contemporary life. His teaching offers a direct, culturally accessible approach to becoming more fully oneself and opening to higher influences. A study and practice of ancient methods, arranged for modern life, to awaken to our essential nature.

We acknowledge the three functions of perception within us—thought, feeling and sensation—and so work to free the mind, enliven the heart, and bring about a deeper connection within the body. We develop these aspects of our selves simultaneously through study and practical work in order to bring them in harmony with each other, so that we may connect with a deeper energy within ourselves.

The aim is to offer participants a direct experience of inner work, with the possibility of continuing for those who wish to deepen their engagement. This work is undertaken in service to others and to the broader cultural and natural environment. Work on oneself has a tangible harmonizing effect on those around us, extending outward into the wider community. In this sense, inner work becomes a form of practical activism for the benefit of all.

Exchange: $11 (to support the work of Spiral Mirror)

An Experiential Introduction at Full Circle in Gardiner, NY

A 3 hour workshop including experience with sitting, Movements-exercises, and theory.

impressions into the energies that shape inner life—vitality, instinct, sensitivity, consciousness, creativity, and love.

This workshop explores how these energies can be refined and developed further. G. I. Gurdjieff introduced a practical, modern path of inner work designed for the conditions of contemporary life. His teaching offers a direct, culturally accessible approach to becoming more fully oneself and opening to higher influences.

Participants will engage key ideas, experiential practices, and the sacred Movements—bringing inner work into action.
